CNC Toast by Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories
Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories recently had a major technical breakthrough, they equipped a CNC router with a hot air gun and are now successfully printing images on toast. Here’s a video showing them printing some creepy Ze Frank faces on toast. They even paid tribute to our good friend Jeffrey McGrew aka “Toast”, who along with Jillian Northrup run the CNC fabrication company...

Parallels Technology Network launches VM library
Filed under: Enterprise, Software, Open Source One of the advantages of a mature virtualization platform (I’m looking at you, VMware) is an extensive library of prepackaged, load-and-go virtual machine appliances. Macbook Ram Upgrade 101
I seemed to have forgotten that I have a blog, time to get back into the groove.. again. To kick things off lets have a little spurt of hardware articles. In this article I’m going to go over the quick and easy procedure of replacing/upgrading the ram modules in the Apple Macbook. I have the black Core Duo Macbook but I believe the chassis in the Core 2 Duo Macbooks is identical as the processors...

Dell Adds Solid State Drives to Some Notebooks
Dell has taken a huge step in the world of notebook computers…they added a solid state drive (SSD) to the list of hard drive choices available on select notebook models. The two models that received the option are the Latitude D420 and the D620. It is important to note that both of those laptops are high priced and targeted for businesses, not for consumers. Right now the only solid state drive...

Drunk Man Parks Horse In German Bank
A photo released by police shows a horse standing next to a sleeping man in the foyer of a bank in the east German village of Wiesenburg. The drunken man tried to rest with his horse in the bank’s entrance, when passers-by called the police who could convince the man and horse to leave the bank. Could video be coming to gTalk?
Filed under: Business, Design, Developer, Video, GoogleCould Google Talk soon be video-enabled? One of the first integrations of the Google acquired Marratech AB could actually be in Google Talk. It really does seem like the logical first step. Speculation is that Google will soon offer a rebuilt Marratech downloadable client for Mac and PC’s adding to the Google Desktop and Picasa lineup....

WIRED journo won't do email interviews--ironic.
A WIRED journalist pinged me for some comments on Michael Arrington and his A-list blogger status. I told the journalist to send me the questions by email and he refused. He said Dave Winer did the same thing. Journalists have been burning subjects for so long with paraphrased quotes, half quotes, and misquotes that I think a lot of folks (especially ones who don’t need the press) are taking...

TinkerThink, A Large Scale Mechanical Puzzle
A couple of weeks ago, after the WordPress Meetup at Google, I was hanging out with Kevin Marks in the lobby of Building 43 and we came across a couple of really interesting kinetic sculptures that were on display. They were both created by Aaron Geman and are prototypes for his TinkerThink project, which will be a large scale, metal mechanical puzzle, done in the style of Rube...

Costco selling Microsoft iPods
Costco selling Microsoft iPods. OK. Not really, but you can see how Costco was a little too lazy to display products properly without mixing brands. Originally found on Unixjunkie (thanks Yohannes). On top of the fact that these are Apple iPods displayed atop Microsoft boxes, the plastic displays are empty. What a waste of materials. —- Related Articles at UNEASYsilence: Guess you get...

Learn to use Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)
Hot on the heels of the celebrated 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) release of Ubuntu comes the Unofficial Ubuntu 7.04 Starter Guide, a free online guide to using the Linux distro. The guide covers a massive range of subjects, everything from updating Ubuntu to mounting Windows partitions to working with various kinds of hardware. I wouldn’t say it’s a particularly novice-friendly reference, as it...
